PMG Chocolatier was started in 2007, but the roots of its founder stretch back decades, and in some ways, even centuries. PMG was started by Perry Macheras, nephew of Charles Gorant, who was considered by many to be the father of chocolate in northeast Ohio. Under his leadership, the Gorant family name became synonymous with fine chocolate and the latest innovations in candy making.
During his youth, Perry Macheras would visit his uncle Charlie from his home in Virginia, learning a bit about chocolate making with each journey. Over the years, he worked alongside them in the candy kitchen, developing his own palate and ideas. In the 1980s, Perry’s passion evolved into a career and he worked with his uncles to help grow the enterprise, and in particular, develop the retail side of the business.
Last year, Perry decided it was time to cultivate a personal dream – to create his own brand of chocolates, one that unlocked some of the great traditions of his family, yet added his own personal touch. And so PMG Chocolatier chocolates were born.
PMG Chocolatier is about classic chocolate recipes reinvented for today. Many techniques that have been passed down for generations are being implemented, revitalized and improved through PMG. It is chocolate tradition infused with innovation.
In June of 2010, PMG Chocolatier (named, incidentally, for Perry’s initials) opened a chocolate lover’s paradise: a 7,000 square foot candy store filled with literally thousands of chocolates, candies, snacks and gifts. Many of the items are based upon traditional techniques and secrets; others are Perry’s personal interpretation of the classics. All the products will be hand-made in small batches with the finest quality chocolate. Signature items featured at PMG Chocolatier include: fresh-dipped chocolate covered strawberries and other seasonal berries, fresh fruit cream centers, chocolate covered pears, mallo nut bars, buckeye pops, 16 varieties of caramel apples and chocolate-peanut clusters.
The flagship store, located at 4325 Kirk Road, will be a visual feast and unlike any other candy store. The 90-foot candy counter will be impeccably lined with more than 120 different pieces of chocolate. Hundreds of other types of candy will be creatively showcased throughout the massive store. There is even an indoor gazebo spotlighting PMG’s fabulous wedding items. The company has quickly become known for its fabulous custom candy tables for weddings and other special events, which feature an array of candy selections expertly displayed and themed to the occasion.
From clusters to cashews, and mints to meltaways, PMG Chocolatier promises to be a chocolate lover’s paradise, a place where chocolate and its rich history are celebrated every day.
